I’m pretty sure I’m not the only girl who has collected so many so make-up brushes over the years. I’ve probably tried every single one someone recommended until I found just the right ones for me. Some brushes I never seem to use right now and others could use replacing, that’s why I’ve been trying to pare down my make up brush collection.
Today I wanted to share with you some of my favorite and most used brushes at the moment, because I know it’s so hard to decide just which ones you really need. Good make-up brushes can make a world of difference in the ease of application and the finished look of your make-up, so here you have the best make-up brushes in my opinion.
Brushes for Eyes
MAC 228 Mini Shader Brush
I use this when I do a smokey eye. It’s so precise at placing shadow with hardly any fallout of shadow under your eyes or on your cheeks, and you can also easily smudge your eyeliner. I have a second one to use for concealer and highlighter on the insides of my eyes. It’s also and amazing brush for applying lipstick.
MAC 266 Small Angle Brush
This is a great angle brush for perfect eyeliner every time. You can use it wet or dry, powder or gel. It’s also can be used for filling in eyebrows.
MAC 224 Tapered Blending Brush
This is another essential that everyone should have in their kit. Not only does it apply color, you can also use this brush for shading your crease and seamlessly blending out your shadows. This brush can make a huge difference in how natural your shading looks. No streaks, only a smooth transition of color.
MAC Flat Definer Brush 212
This is the perfect brush for tightlining (applying eyeliner in between your lashes at the base). It’s a look I use quite a bit. You can enhance a smokey eye or go for a subtle natural look with only a tightline between your lashes.
For a perfect eyeliner try Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Eyeliner

This foundation brush is so soft and blends your foundation effortlessly. The bristles are dense and super soft. You can use this on your entire face to apply foundation, under eye concealer and creme blush. Works with liquid and powder foundations. Definitely worth the splurge. I also have my eye on the bronzer and concealer bush so they will probably be my next purchases.

Powder and Finishing Brushes
Laura Mercier Finishing Brush
I love this brush because it can be used for so many things. It’s a great buffer for your foundation. You can create a flawless airbrushed look with this brush. It blends and diffuses blushes and bronzers seamlessly. It’s perfect for mineral makeup and powders.
NARS Yachiyo Kabuki Brush
This brush was designed for defining cheekbones, highlighting, blending and diffusing color on or around the eye area. It’s perfect for applying blush to the apples of the cheeks. Just lightly sweep over blush color and apply. It’s that simple and the results are perfect every time! It picks up just the right amount of color. This is a very light delicate brush. I use this for blush and highlighter.
Sephora Collection Pro Bronzer #48
The synthetic bristles are so soft. It distributes powders evenly and with the short handle it fits easily in your cosmetic bag.
Final Thoughts
Good cosmetic brushes should last years. Clean your brushes frequently to remove bacteria and avoid product buildup. Wash with a gentle cleanser, squeeze out, reshape and lay flat on a clean towel to dry. Keep brushes upright if possible after they are dry.
I’m always interested in trying new brushes and I’d love to hear some of your favorites.
