No one wants a frizzy frazzled fried mess of hair. We all want shiny, dreamy locks. One of the best ways to keep your hair healthy and shiny is to use a weekly hair mask. If you have hair that is dry, color treated, or long hair that could use some help at the ends, a good hair mask can be a lifesaver. All hair types can benefit from a good hair mask. It’s all in the way that you use it.
For extremely dry, coarse, or over processed hair a weekly or twice weekly deep conditioning works well. Wash hair and apply conditioner. Wrap in plastic wrap or shower cap, then wrap in a warm towel or apply heat with blow dryer. Leave on hair for up to an hour. Most masks can also be used in the shower as a conditioner. Use a little on the ends of your hair after washing and leave on while showering.
If your hair is oily you can still benefit from a mask just be sure to stay away from the roots. Apply the mask to the ends or to damaged hair only. If used this way a tub of mask lasts a long time, so don’t be afraid to splurge on a good one. If you have fine hair apply a small amount of mask. Use too much and your hair will be flat and heavy. The shower method may be all the conditioning time that you need.
There are many options out there to choose from. Ask your hairdresser for recommendations and don’t hesitate to return one that isn’t working for you. Some favorites to try are:
Kerastase Nutritive Masquintense Thick

This is one of my all time favorite hair treatments. It leaves your hair feeling so soft and silky. Doesn’t weigh hair down and it’s perfect for anyone with dry, damaged hair or those with long hair to help with split ends. Use this as a weekly mask treatment or put a dab on the ends of your hair after washing.
If using as a after shampoo conditioner you only need a little. This is expensive but for most hair types a little goes a long way. Be sure to buy this from Kerastase.com or a Kerastase approved salon that carries it. Don’t buy it online anywhere else. Expensive hair products are actually a hot item to counterfeit so be careful, you may not be getting the product you think you are.
